About The Artist

Linda Joyce was born in Webster, Massachusetts on Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggcharbunagungamaugg, her happy place throughout her early life. The artwork of her great uncle Warren Wheelock (1880-1960, sculptor, painter, abstractionist, writer, teacher) became the overarching influence in her creative pursuit, and her family provided exposure to art sources, including various art musuems in New York City. Linda worked with young children and families for 30 years as a teacher, social worker and therapist. She integrated creative activities in her work and culminated her career as an Expressive Arts Facilitator in a clinical setting. She currently lives in Grayling, MI as a working artist.

Linda has worked and studied in several mediums, and currently works in jewelry design, mixed media collage, and creative visual journaling. She has cultivated several styles of jewelry art, which are often embellished by the unique patterns and rhythms she develops. Beading is a staple. Hand painted paper pieces, which she calls Whimzies, are also a prevalent style. Most recently, she has cultivated a more rustic style called Digs & Diadems, where leather, feathers, gems, wire and paper are combined by wrapping, stitching, embellishing, layering and riveting. The future direction of her jewelry making includes integrating opals from around the world.

Linda has taught classes in the Artisan Village Creativity Center and during Christmas Walk events. She has developed many beading and jewelry making projects appropriate for school age children and will continue to offer jewelry making classes for children and adults at Artisan Village.
